The Valencia Road, Wilmot Road to Kolb Road, improvement project is set to start in summer 2018 in order to increase traffic capacity and enhance safety. This will include improvements to the Valencia-Kolb intersection and feature indirect left turns.
The Regional Transportation Authority managed the design and right-of-way acquisition phases of the Valencia Road, Wilmot Road to Kolb Road, project and these phases are substantially complete. The project has been handed over to the City of Tucson to administer the construction phase since much of the project is within the City of Tucson as a result of annexations which occurred.
The corridor improvement project was approved by Pima County voters in May 2006 as part of the 20-year RTA plan. Pima County conducted the initial planning work on the project and turned the project over to the RTA in December 2012.
The proposed project features a parkway-at-grade intersection, or PAGI, and will provide improvements to alleviate traffic congestion and connect to future improvements to Valencia Road, east to Houghton Road. This project will continue the widening of Valencia Road to six lanes from just east of Wilmot to east of Kolb Road and up to where a new connection ramp will be built between Kolb and Valencia south of the intersection. New bike lanes, sidewalks, drainage structures and landscaping are among the project improvements.
Project construction at is time is estimated to last approximately 12 months.
A public meeting will be held by the City of Tucson once a contractor is selected. If you would like to be added to a project contact list, please email your contact information to firstname.lastname@example.org
