Bike and Ped

A significant portion of the RTA plan and its expenditures are dedicated toward bicycle and pedestrian projects throughout the region. Over its 20-year lifespan, the RTA will construct approximately 250 miles of sidewalks and 550 miles of bikeways. The RTA Bicycle and Pedestrian Working Group reviews and recommends bicycle, pedestrian, sidewalk, ADA, Safe Routes to School, and safety projects for funding.

Recommendations are forwarded through the committee process to the RTA Board for consideration. The RTA Bicycle and Pedestrian Working Group is made up of jurisdictional representatives, community stakeholders, cyclists, Safe Routes to School program participants and groups representing the disabled.

As of July 2009, the following RTA bicycle/pedestrian projects have been completed:
  • 40 ADA Accessibility Projects
  • 24 HAWK (High intensity Activated crossWalKs) Flashers
  • 3 Multi-use Paths
  • 18 Bike Lane Projects
  • 12 Sidewalk Projects
  • 2 Safe Routes to School Projects
