• Groundbreaking on the intersection of Grant and Oracle to begin the first project of the Grant, Oracle to Swan, project, the largest roadway project in the RTA plan. The groundbreaking was held July 26, 2012. The intersection will include a Michigan left turn lane.
• Completion of Speedway, Camino Seco to Houghton, roadway improvement project. The roadway was widened to four lanes and includes new bike lanes and sidewalks. Ribbon cutting held July 11, 2012.
• Construction for the $20.6 million Kino Parkway and 22nd Street elevated intersection project kicked off with a groundbreaking ceremony on June 21, 2012.
• Construction on Sahuarita Road, La Villita to Country Club, started in May 2012.
• Construction for the Tucson Modern Streetcar rail along the 3.9 mile route began in April 12, 2012, with a groundbreaking ceremony on April 12, when the name, Sun Link, was unveiled.
• The $13.2 million La Canada, Ina to Calle Concordia, roadway improvement project was completed on Oct. 1, 2011. The project included widening to four lanes, drainage improvements and new multi-use lanes.
• The $19 million La Cholla, River Road to Ruthrauff, roadway widening project was dedicated on Sept. 9, 2011. The roadway was widened to six lanes and the project included a new bridge over the Rillito River, new bike lanes and new sidewalks.

The first phase of the RTA plan is FY 2007 through FY 2011. The RTA is completing the fifth year of the first phase of the plan. During this period, the RTA recognizes the following major milestones to-date:

• Completion of the Twin Peaks Interchange and Road (formerly Camino de Manana) in Marana.
• Completion of the I-19 frontage road between Continental and Canoa roads in Green Valley.
• Completion of the Houghton/Old Vail intersection as part of the initial phase of the Houghton Road corridor project in Tucson. 
• Completion of the first phase of Sahaurita Road, between I-19 and La Villita, in Sahuarita.
• Construction is under way or expected to be under way in 2011 on the following roadway projects: Downtown Links: I-10 to Church and 8th St. Drainage; Grant Road: Oracle/Grant intersection; Houghton Road: Irvington to Valencia and Houghton/Broadway intersection; Kolb Road connection with Sabino Canyon: Sabino Canyon/Tanque Verde intersection; La Canada: Calle Concordia to River; La Cholla: River to Ruthrauff and Magee to Tangerine; Magee Road/Cortaro Farms Road: La Canada to Mona Lisa and Mona Lisa to Thornydale; Speedway Blvd.: Camino Seco to Houghton; Tanque Verde Road: Houghton to Catalina Highway.
• Construction will begin on the following intersection projects in 2011: Oracle and Ina; Starr Pass and Mission, and Golf Links and Kolb.
• Sun Tran has expanded its evening and weekend transit service on a total of 44 routes. 
• Sun Tran has added or enhanced seven express bus routes.
• New Sun Shuttle neighborhood transit service has 11 routes in operation.
• The City of Tucson received a $63 million grant in February 2010 from the U.S. Department of Transportation to help fund its portion of the cost of the modern streetcar project, a $150 million project approved by voters as part of the RTA plan.
• Establishment of the MainStreet Small Business Assistance Program, which has logged 20,000+ business outreach and ombudsman visits with 4,000+ businesses on 31 regional projects and provided confidential business consulting services to over 240 companies. 
• Determination of the alignment for the RTA's largest roadway project ($167 million) on Grant Road.
• Completion (October 2009) of the first phase of a new Sun Tran Bus Storage and Maintenance Facility.
